Step-by-step

Step 1
For this project you'll need our broad acrylic marker set in abstract colours. This set contains five edding 5000 broad acrylic markers in gentian blue, opulent turquoise, telemagenta, traffic yellow and sunny yellow. Print out the two-page template and stick the two sections together.

Step 2
Position the template behind the canvas and place them both in front of a light source. You’ll now find it really easy to trace over the motif in pencil.

Step 3
Before you start painting, activate the marker as follows: shake the marker with the cap on until you can hear the mixing balls rattle inside, then carefully pump the marker up and down until ink appears in the nib. It's important to hold the marker at a slight angle as you pump, so you don't damage the chisel tip. Starting with the broad acrylic markers in traffic yellow and sunny yellow, use the broad edge of the chisel nib to fill in the background.

Step 4
The broad edge of the nib can also be used to separate larger areas of colour.

Step 5
Use darker colours such as gentian blue, opulent turquoise and telemagenta to fill in the sections in the middle and foreground. To ensure you don't inadvertently mix your colours, always let one colour dry before continuing with the next.

Step 6
Now paint the various contours and add highlights using the tip of the chisel nib.

Step 7
Again, use the fine tip of the chisel nib to add smaller features to the landscape.

Step 8
Fill in the sun with opulent turquoise and apply some more ink to the sky. Wet a piece of kitchen towel and smudge the still-wet paint to give the appearance of clouds.
