Step-by-step

Step 1
You can see everything you need for this project in the photo below. In our example, we’ve used edding 5200 concrete-effect permanent spray (941) and decorated the tabletop using a broad edding 5000 acrylic marker in gentian blue.

Step 2
First, wipe over your pots with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Before you start spraying, cover your workspace with protective sheeting or paper. Next, shake the spray can vigorously for around 3 minutes until you can clearly hear the mixing balls rattling around inside. If you take a break from painting – even a short one - you'll need to re-activate the spray can each time you resume. Our Permanent spray basics page on our website also includes all you need to know on how to create the perfect spray paint finish.

Step 3
Place one of your pots on the protective sheet and apply an even coat of paint all over. For best results, we recommend holding the spray can around 25 cm from your painting surface and applying the paint in a criss-cross motion. Repeat with your second pot and then leave both pots to dry completely.

Step 4
While the pots are drying, you can start decorating the tabletop. Activate your acrylic marker by following the instructions on the pen. Next, add some thick stripes to the base of your round flat dish. This should be really easy to do thanks to the broad chisel nib of the edding 5000 acrylic marker.

Step 5
Once the painted pots are completely dry, it’s time to glue them together. Turn the pots upside down and apply a thick bead of mounting adhesive around the bottom edge of each pot, making sure you follow any instructions on the adhesive packaging.

Step 6
Line the pots up exactly on top of each other and press down firmly.

Step 7
Your designer piece is now almost finished. All that’s left is to place your decorated dish on top to create the tabletop. The dish should sit comfortably on the pot, so there’s no need to glue it in place.
