Step-by-step

Step 1
You can see all the materials you need at a glance in our photo. In our example, we chose porcelain brush pens in black, blue, pink and yellow.

Step 2
For best results, start by washing the vase with water and wipe over with methylated spirits. Thorough cleaning is essential in order to remove any invisible protective film applied during manufacture.

Step 3
Think about where you want to position the sun's face. Moving out from the face, draw lots of yellow sunbeams close together, radiating out across the whole vase. If you go wrong, simply wipe off with a damp cloth or cotton bud. You can continue to make corrections at any time right up until the baking stage. Leave the ink to dry for a short while to prevent smudging, then paint a smiley face.

Step 4
Once you've finished your design, let the vase dry for 15 minutes. Next, preheat the oven to 160°, place your vase on a cold oven shelf, slide it into the oven and bake for 25 minutes. Leave in the oven to cool afterwards. The baking process makes the decoration dishwasher-proof.
