Step-by-step

Step 1
First, wash the material to remove any fabric finish and leave it to dry. If you want to sew your own fabric hanging organiser, you’ll find a variety of instructions online showing you how to do this. For the design shown in our example, we used edding 4500 textile markers in the following colours: blue (colour code 003), brown (007), pink (009), orange (006), pale green (034) and black (001).

Step 2
Cut out the pockets to be sewn onto the holder in the appropriate size. To prevent the ink from bleeding through to the back or onto the table as you draw, we recommend you place a piece of cardboard underneath the fabric. If you’re going for the black striped pattern, use a ruler to help you draw the black marker lines.

Step 3
To heat-set the design, iron the fabric on the no-steam setting. Your finished organiser will then be wash-resistant up to 60°C.

Step 4
If you wish, you can continue designing your hanging storage organiser with all kinds of motifs. When drawing straight onto a sewn-on pocket, remember to slip a piece of cardboard inside as you go along, so the colour doesn’t bleed through. Finally, sew on the tassels, insert the wooden rod at the top, attach the ribbon for hanging – and you’re done!
