A pen, as old as the love of beautiful handwriting.
Humans have long desired beautiful handwriting ever since they first began putting their thoughts on paper over 7,500 years ago. Until the invention of printing, there were specially trained calligraphers who artfully copied Bibles and other books by hand. And that was a time-consuming process: a skilled calligrapher could easily spend half a year copying a Bible. Fortunately, today everyone, from graphic designers to hobby calligraphers, can immerse themselves in the world of handwriting. Whether you want to copy an entire book or simply create an artistic card – with edding calligraphy fiber pens, success is guaranteed.
Are you wondering what the difference is between calligraphy and hand lettering, and when you need a calligraphy pen and when you need a brush pen with a brush tip ? While both refer to the art of beautiful writing, calligraphy focuses on writing , while hand lettering is about the artistic drawing of letters. Feel free to visit our brush pen page to learn more.
The right calligraphy pen for every surface
While calligraphers used to work exclusively on paper, the possibilities for all lettering enthusiasts are now more diverse than ever.
Our edding 1255 is particularly well-suited for those just starting out with calligraphy. The elegant calligraphy tip is available in various line widths: 2 mm for fine lines , 3.5 mm for medium lines , and 5 mm for thicker strokes. Because the robust chisel tip doesn't bend, calligraphy is possible even if you don't have much experience yet. The perfect starting point for harmonious handwriting! The edding 1455 is a model with a soft tip . Thanks to its flexible chisel tip , you can choose the line width from 1 mm to 5 mm for use on paper, cardboard, canvas, wood, and terracotta . Depending on whether you write with the tip or the broad edge, the writing style changes. This allows you to create fantastic flourishes and lively letters. Both the pen and marker are available individually and in sets in black , steel blue , dark brown , bottle green , and crimson .
If you're looking for a highly opaque marker in fantastic metallic colors , our gloss paint markers with lacquer-like ink are just what you need. With the edding 753 , you can write not only on paper and cardboard, but also transform glass, metal, plastic, or stone into hand-signed art . A highlight : the pen is available in a brilliant copper tone . And of course, our gloss paint markers are also available individually and in practical sets .
Ready, set, go! Once you've chosen the right calligraphy pen for your project and loosened up your wrists, you can start writing beautifully. The magic formula for successful calligraphy lies in the so-called nib angle . If you maintain this angle and your calligraphy tip always remains at a 45° angle to the baseline, you'll create expressive lettering. Remove calligraphy pen
Since the inks in our calligraphy pens are waterproof , ink residue cannot simply be removed with a damp cloth. However, alcohol can be a solution in this case . Test your chosen alcohol-based solution – we recommend acetone or white spirit for paint markers , and isopropanol for calligraphy pens and markers – first on an inconspicuous area, as it could potentially damage the material. And how do you remove the ink from your skin? Again, anything containing alcohol will work . We recommend alcohol-based hand sanitizers to tackle the permanent ink while protecting your skin.
How to properly store and dispose of calligraphy pens
Whether you own a classic calligraphy pen or a calligraphy paint marker , to ensure it lasts as long as possible, store it horizontally . Prevent it from drying out by protecting it from direct sunlight and replacing the cap when not in use. Finally, you can dispose of your pen in your regular trash .
