How do you fix fabric paint to fabric?
Fixing textile paint to fabric is an important step to ensure that your creative designs remain permanent, waterproof, and washable.
- Ironing – The classic:
- After you have applied your design to the fabric using fabric paint, let it dry thoroughly.
- Cover the painted design with a thin cotton cloth to avoid direct contact between the paint and the iron, or iron the garment right side out.
- Iron over the painted area for about 5 minutes to fix the paint. This makes the result washable up to 60°C .
- Hair dryer – for things you can't iron:
- For example, if you are painting shoes, you can use a hot hairdryer instead of an iron.
- Treat the dry fabric with hairdryer air on the hottest setting to fix the color.
- However, you should know that using a hairdryer to set the colors doesn't do the job as well as using an iron. This means the colors won't be as wash-resistant. If you have the choice, you should always use an iron.
