Paint markers are waterproof pens known for their high opacity. At edding, we divide our paint markers into two categories based on the type of ink: oil‑based markers and water‑based markers.

Oil‑based paint markers offer numerous advantages: They are premium paint markers, ideal for difficult surfaces and environments. With their robust aluminium barrel, they are suitable for marking tasks in industrial workplaces. The oil‑based ink is particularly heat‑resistant and resistant to solvents, with some colours being especially durable. These paint markers are extremely long‑lasting and provide excellent opacity on almost all materials. Replacement nibs are also available, allowing you to use up the ink cost‑effectively if a nib becomes frayed or clogged.

Water‑based paint markers are part of the edding EcoLine. An EcoLine paint marker barrel consists of more than 75% post‑consumer recycled material. The ink dries quickly and has little odour, making it especially suitable for small, enclosed spaces. Water‑based paint markers are also available with a broad nib.
These paint markers are refillable, and replacement nibs are also available. Made in Germany, they represent quality and sustainability.

Can you write in white with edding?

Unlike our permanent markers, the ink used in our paint markers is pigment‑based, which means these eddings provide highly opaque results on a variety of surfaces. Lighter eddings in white, yellow, or orange are particularly popular because they are very easy to read on dark and black surfaces.

White edding markers (oil‑based):

Abrasion‑resistant, heat‑resistant and lightfast with oil‑based paint markers

For extreme abrasion resistance on most surfaces, the waterproof, fast‑drying ink of our paint markers is ideal. The models edding 750, edding 751, and edding 780 are also highly heat‑resistant and withstand temperatures up to 400 °C.
At temperatures up to 1000 °C, markings in the colours 005–010, 049, 054 (yellow, orange, brown, violet, pink, light blue, white, and silver) remain visible.

Therefore, an edding paint marker is the ideal tool for the metalworking industry, among others.
When slightly oily and dusty surfaces need to be marked, the edding 8750 industrial paint marker is the right choice. Its highly permanent special ink withstands temperatures up to 300 °C.

Pumping a paint marker correctly

Our edding paint markers operate with a pump system. This means they must be activated before use as described here:

1. Shake well with the cap closed
2. Remove the cap
3. Slowly press the nib down on a test surface
4. Repeat this process approx. 4–5 times
5. Once enough ink has flowed into the nib, the marker is ready for writing
