A little better every day

Earth Day is an international day of environmental action celebrated each year on 22^nd April. Sustainability events and campaigns are held in many locations around the world to promote climate protection, with people encouraged to get drawing, painting and crafting. We particularly liked this idea: use edding’s acrylic markers to create your own personal message on a stone or pebble in a few simple steps. The design in our example has been inspired by our very own blue planet. The fine-tipped marker is perfect for decorating your pebble with detailed patterns or for adding a few words.

Step-by-step

Step 1

In our example, we’ve used the fine edding 5300 acrylic marker in yellow green, gentian blue, black and traffic red. Round flat stones are best for this design. If you prefer a broader nib, we recommend using the medium edding 5100 acrylic marker.

Before you start, wipe over your pebble with a damp cloth and leave to dry. You’ll then need to activate your markers. To do this, shake each marker with the cap still on until you can clearly hear the mixing ball rattling inside the pen. Next, carefully press the nib down a few times on a piece of scrap paper until the ink fills the tip. You can also try a few test marks on your scrap paper.

Step 2

Now it’s time to think up your design. In our example, we’ve designed our stone to look like our planet, with the continents in green and the oceans in blue. Remember, if your chosen design uses several colours, it’s best to apply one colour and then let it dry before applying the next. That way, the colours won’t get accidentally mixed together.
