Step-by-step

Step 1
Wash the fabric before you start, leave to dry and then iron to remove any creases. Gather all your materials.

Step 2
Use the pinking shears to neatly trim the edges of the fabric. This will prevent fraying and means you don’t need to hem the edges.

Step 3
To make a channel for the piece of wood to run through when the chart is finished, fold the material over at one end and glue down firmly with textile glue (or sew it down).

Step 4
First, take the ruler and mark out the desired measurements lightly in pencil. Next, draw over your pencil markings with the black edding textile pen, using the rule to guide you. Next, add the numbers and decorate the entire chart with your chosen illustrations.

Step 5
Our chart features little piggies and was inspired by a children’s book, but feel free to choose your own kids’ characters.

Step 6
The best method is to make a template of your favourite characters and place it under the fabric so it shows through. Then simply go over the motifs with a textile marker or textile pen.

Step 7
If you want to wash the height chart at any time in the future, we recommend you heat-set the fabric ink with an iron. It will then be able to withstand wash cycles up to 60°C. To complete your height chart, slide the stick of wood into the channel and attach the ribbon for hanging.
