Create a festive atmosphere

At Christmas time, a light ring which lights up and flashes can create a festive ambience in no time at all. It can be decorated in so many different ways, for example by adding a Christmas tree bauble, mini wooden figurines or a highly effective bauble made of glass. We also made our own stands for our light-up rings, using the traditional Christmas colours of red, gold and green to do so. However, you can also choose other colours if you prefer. The acrylic markers are available in stunning shades, from pastels to vibrant metallic tones.

Step-by-step

Step 1

To design your decoration, you will need acrylic markers (in various stroke widths), chalk markers and gloss paint markers in your favourite colours. First, print out the templates. Shade the back of your chosen motif with a soft pencil.

Step 2

Turn the template over again and transfer the motif onto a wooden block. Do this by tracing over the motif with a pencil, pressing down firmly as you do so.

Step 3

Colour the entire surface of all the blocks using the broad acrylic marker. First activate your markers as follows: shake the marker with the cap on until the mixing balls inside the pen start to rattle. Remove the cap then carefully pump the marker up and down until paint fills the nib. Test out on a piece of scrap paper. A note of caution: your transferred motifs will be more difficult to make out if you use darker colours.

Step 4

Let the undercoat dry thoroughly before taking the fine acrylic marker in white and decoratively inscribing the wooden strip. The narrow end of the double liner (it is ready to use immediately, no preparation needed) ensures fabulous, 3D-style effects if you simply add individual gold droplets.

Step 5

Use wood glue to stick the wooden blocks together to make a stand. On the base plate, stick the other two wooden parts with the narrow edge facing down, to create a gap in the centre for your wooden ring.

Step 6

Now wind the fairy lights around the wooden ring, making sure they are evenly spaced.

Step 7

Place the light ring on the base and attach a thread from which to hang the Christmas bauble on the fairy lights.

Step 8

Decorate the Christmas bauble however you like with the gloss paint marker. We have a host of templates available to give you inspiration and for you to colour in. When everything is ready, secure the baubles to a hook on your light ring.

Step 9

When it comes to the glass bauble, it’s incredibly easy to transfer your chosen motif: place the glass bauble on the template for your chosen motif and draw round it with the chalk marker. If you want to change the motif, you can wipe of the chalk marker ink with a damp cloth at any time.
