Colourful leaves for your journal

Treat each month as a new beginning by creating a suitably decorative cover page in your journal. In autumn, you can welcome in September or October by drawing leaves in vibrant oranges, reds and yellows. Step-by-step

Step 1

For the design, you’ll need the Colour Happy Box containing 20 brush pens, plus the brush pen colour mixer. For the outlines and leaf veins we recommend the edding 1800 profipen, also available in a handy set of 4 different stroke widths.

Step 2

First, trace out your layout in pencil. Let your imagination run wild and draw all manner of leaves in different shapes and sizes: zig-zig, rounded, heart-shaped, large or small - they’re all found in nature.

Step 3

Using the brush pen colour mixer from the Colour Happy Box, you can blend colours with total ease. Do this by inserting two brush pens in your chosen colours into the colour mixer so that the tips touch. Briefly hold the mixer vertically to allow the bottom pen to absorb ink from the top pen.

Step 4

Next, colour in the leaves with the freshly mixed colour. After a short time, your newly created colour will run out, allowing you to carry on with the original shade of ink. Leave the middle of the leaf white for now.

Step 5

Using a wet brush, go over the coloured sections and colour in the middle of the leaf to create a fabulous watercolour effect. You can even brighten up the coloured-in areas.

Step 6

Next, use the edding 1800 in black to fill in the stem and veins. The edding 1800 profipen is also ideal for the title lettering in the centre of your page.
