As easy as pie: Spiky designs for soft tea towels

Stylish, monotone or stripy tea towels are so yesterday. These days, the kitchen is a place of creativity and personal taste – and not just when cooking! With the edding textile markers, you can spice up your tea towels with cool designs. You won’t believe how easy it is to create your own beautiful patterns and designs! Simply think up a pretty pattern and draw it onto a piece of cardboard to get started. The edding textile markers and textile pens are perfect for use on all light-coloured fabrics, including cotton, silk and linen. You can choose from a range of 20 colours in two stroke widths, including neon colours for a particularly vibrant effect. What’s more, the sets are ideal for beginners and advanced crafters alike: each of the new sets – blues and greens, reds or assorted base colours – contains five perfectly colour-coordinated shades. After you’ve finished your design, iron the kitchen towel using the no-steam setting. Your design will then withstand washes of up to 60°C.

Step-by-step

Step 1

We recommend that you start by washing the finish from the tea towel and leaving it to dry. Print out the cactus design and create a cardboard template in your desired size. Make sure you have everything you need before you begin.

Step 2

Lay your tea towel on top of the cardboard and draw the outline of your cactus using the template and the edding 4500 textile marker in green.

Step 3

Next, perfect the cactus shape with a few curved strokes using the textile marker in green. Now add 3 cm long strokes for the cactus spines. Using the ruler and the edding 4600 textile pen in dark green, draw straight lines in the shape of a flower pot.

Step 4

Leave your design to dry for approx. 15 minutes, then colour in your cactus using the textile marker in pale green.

Step 5

Using the edding 4500 textile marker in neon orange, draw two 1 cm-wide horizontal stripes along the flower pot and colour them in.

Step 6

Next, add pink, triangular flowers to make your cactus bloom.

Step 7

If you like, you can also add a sentiment under your cactus design. To do this, place our "Lookin’ Sharp" template beneath your cactus design and draw out the letters using the edding textile pen in green. To fix your design, iron it using the no-steam setting. Your tea towel will then be able to withstand washes of up to 60°C!
