Step-by-step

Step 1
You can see everything you need at a glance in our photo. The edding 1255 calligraphy pens are available in three stroke widths and five colours. We decided on carmine red in our example, but you can pick the colour and nib width that best suits your writing. You also have the option of using coloured paper.

Step 2
First, think up a short quote, song text or sentiment. Remember that only some of the wording will be visible on the outside, as a lot of the text will be hidden inside once you’ve folded the paper. Using the 1255 calligraphy pen, write your chosen words diagonally across the page. Tip: hold the pen at the same angle all the time and don’t twist the nib as you write.

Step 3
Place the heart template on the sheet of paper and draw round it with a pen (such as the edding 88 fineliner).

Step 4
Cut out the heart shape neatly.

Step 5
Next, turn the heart into a folded envelope by following these steps:
- Turn the sheet over so the writing is facedown
- Fold the left and right sides towards the centre
- Do the same with the top and bottom edges, folding them towards the centre to form an envelope.
- Pop the contents inside and seal with a matching ribbon or adhesive tape.
