The winners were announced on 30th November by Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Environment Ministry, and Professor Dirk Messner, President of the German Federal Environment Agency. The ecodesign Award recognises sustainable products, services and concepts which are outstanding in their design. edding is very proud to be a winner of this renowned award in the Product category. To be presented with the German Federal ecodesign Award is a great honour. “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award for our EcoLine series – above all, because it recognises the work we have put into research and product design,” commented Per Ledermann, CEO of edding AG. “It gives us an extra incentive to continue investing heavily in improving the environmental impact of our products,” he emphasised.
In her tribute speech, jury member Prof. Anna Berkenbusch stressed that every stage of the product lifecycle throughout the design and development of EcoLine had been given thorough and systematic consideration, and that the improvements made to the markers focussed in particular on a long lifespan. “As everyday items used in the home and office, they are hugely relevant when it comes to promoting environmental awareness,” the jury emphasised.
What makes edding EcoLine stand out?
Originally launched in 2008, the EcoLine series includes a range of markers for office use and meets all the criteria for sustainable products: the plastic parts of the permanent, whiteboard and flipchart markers are made of 90% recycled material, the majority of which is in fact post-consumer recycled material. The cap and barrel of the EcoLine highlighter contain more than 90% renewable resources. This highlighter is the first (and currently only) marker in the industry to receive the Blue Angel ecolabel. All the products are refillable. What’s more, the packaging is made entirely from cardboard, most of which is recycled. Due to its outstanding sustainable properties, EcoLine has been presented with the Green Brand Germany Award three times.
