Step-by-step
Step 1
First of all, decide on a motif and sketch it out on your shoe using the self-erasing pen (if you have one). The advantage of this is that the outlines will disappear by themselves after a while. Alternatively, plump straight for the textile markers. We decorated these Converse trainers with the names of cities written in different sizes.
Step 2
Next, go over the motifs or lines using the textile products. The edding 4600 textile pen is best for drawing very narrow lines; for broader lettering, use the edding 4500 textile marker. If your design involves multiple colours, we recommend you always let one colour dry before continuing with the next. To recreate the bright pattern pictured here, first draw the outline in black, then leave to dry for a short while before colouring in the swirls.
Step 3
For a fun effect, try incorporating the shoelace holes into your design. Graphic patterns such as the ones shown here, with lines in shades of blue and lilac merging into each other, create a design with the “wow” factor.
