Draw comics, Japanese-style

Manga drawings have their origins in Japan and are becoming increasingly popular in other countries, too. The characters’ distinctive facial expressions, the large eyes and the predominantly vibrant colours are typical of this drawing style. edding acrylic markers and colour pens are exactly the right products for creating expressive manga. Paso a paso

Paso 1

For this motif you will need edding acrylic markers in different widths and in the colours of your choice. Take a sheet of paper from the edding acrylic and oil pad, an edding 1340 brush pen in light orange and sketch your motif. In the download folder on the right-hand side you will find various templates with manga motifs.

Paso 2

Before you start to draw, first activate the acrylic marker as follows: shake the marker with the cap still on until you can hear the mixing balls inside the pen. Then carefully pump the marker up and down until ink appears in the tip. For the edding 5000 acrylic marker broad with a chisel nib, it’s very important to hold the marker at a slight angle so that the nib doesn’t get damaged. Test the pen out on a piece of paper. Once the marker is activated, you can then colour in the large areas. The broad acrylic marker and the medium acrylic marker are particularly well suited to this. In this example, we’ve used “hazel” as the colour for the face.

Paso 3

For the shirt collar and tie, the edding 5100 medium is the best choice.

Paso 4

And of course, don’t forget those extra details. The edding 5300 fine acrylic marker is great for adding subtle features to the hair and eyes as well as for shading. The narrow edge of the edding 5000 acrylic marker’s chisel nib can be used for this purpose.

Paso 5

Add the final touches to your picture by drawing the outline and detail of the eyes. It’s best to use the edding 5300 fine acrylic marker or the edding 1340 brush pen in black for this. Your work of art is now complete.
