A pen with tradition
What exactly are textile pens and textile markers? In a way, these practical coloring tools are the modern evolution of a dyeing tradition that is thousands of years old. Whether in ancient times, the Middle Ages, or today: dyeing textiles is an ancient craft practiced in many different ways.
Our fabric marker manages to combine this dyeing craft with the simplicity of using a fiber pen. Reliable coloring of fabric materials made easy! Which edding textile marker is right for your project depends, of course, on what you want to use it for.
Finding the right textile marker
The most pragmatic of our textile markers is our laundry marker, the edding 8040. It is made to permanently label light-colored fabrics—whether natural or synthetic—with wash‑ and even boil‑proof color (up to 95 °C). Meaning: no more worrying about mixed‑up clothes when your child goes on a school trip or when you use a public cloakroom.
The laundry marker is waterproof, permanent, gentle on fabric, and available in red and black. Its fine round tip with a 1 mm line width is perfect for marking small areas such as laundry labels.
For creative design on clothing and other textiles, we recommend our textile markers and textile pens. The edding 4600 textile pen, with its fine 1 mm round tip, is the right tool for drawing fine patterns, lettering, and outlines. For thicker lines or filling in areas you previously outlined, the edding 4500 textile marker with a round tip and a 2–3 mm line width is ideal.
The inks in both pens are water‑based and available in 20 vibrant colors from light green to neon pink, just waiting to be tried out.
After adding a black lettering to your T‑shirt or decorating a fabric bag with bright prints, all you need to do is heat‑fix the design with an iron (without steam). The clothing can then be washed at up to 60 °C without damaging your artwork. For delicate fabrics such as silk, special care is needed—so we recommend ironing inside out.

One tip from us: place a piece of cardboard between the fabric layers of your garment before you start. This prevents the fabric paint from bleeding through!
Want to increase the intensity of the colors? Simply slow down the movement of the round tip while drawing or writing. This allows more ink to penetrate the fibers, making the colors appear extra vibrant.

When stains need to go: removing textile marker ink
We designed edding textile markers for markings and drawings that withstand washing machine temperatures of 60 °C (textile markers and pens) or even 95 °C (laundry marker).
The pigments in the edding laundry marker cling to textiles like barbs, making removal nearly impossible. Likewise, the dyes in edding textile markers are developed for high temperatures and adhere permanently to fabrics.
Textile marker stains are particularly difficult to remove because fabrics have a porous surface.
Storing and disposing of textile markers correctly
Ideally, store your textile markers horizontally at room temperature, for example in a drawer. This keeps the textile ink evenly distributed in the filter of the marker and ensures it is always ready to use.
If you store your pen upright with the tip facing up, the ink may sink to the bottom and will need time to flow back into the tip when you want to use it.
Once your pen is empty, simply dispose of it in the residual waste.
For workplaces in companies, public institutions, or educational facilities, we also offer collection boxes in which empty markers can be collected and subsequently recycled. Our contribution—and yours—out of love for the environment!
