edding EcoLine wins the German Sustainability Award for Design
There were over 1,000 applications for the Design Award. edding EcoLine made it through to the final, before being crowned award winner on 1st December.
“We are delighted that our EcoLine series has been presented with this prestigious award for sustainability. It is a huge honour for us. This award underlines how even seemingly small steps can have a positive effect on sustainability, and shows that design plays a key role in this”, declared Per Ledermann (CEO edding).
The German Sustainability Award for Design presents awards for the best solutions in all areas of life. Design doesn’t just refer to the design of physical products, it also includes the development of all conceivable products, systems and services. Ideally, development starts with the question of how the outcome can have the greatest possible positive impact on sustainability – a question that also guides design and implementation. The GSA for Design aims to motivate and put wind in the sails of good examples, spurring them on to success (source: https://www.nachhaltigkeitspreis.de/design/ )
Introduced in 2009, EcoLine has been continually optimised in terms of its eco-friendliness and climate-friendly credentials ever since. Today, the product series is a big hit thanks to its outstanding life cycle assessment. For the production of permanent, whiteboard and flipchart markers, predominantly post-consumer plastic is used. This plastic is sourced, among other things, from household plastic waste. As well as using materials sustainably, edding also saves on new materials, thereby avoiding emissions of up to 126t CO2 per annum.
The edding 24 EcoLine highlighter is made largely of renewable materials and has already been awarded the Blue Angel ecolabel. The emissions generated through the production and distribution of EcoLine have been offset since 2020. Today, the entire production process is climate-neutral. Work is currently under way to make the entire company climate-neutral, thereby enabling edding to offset its emissions internally and / or externally in 2023.
