Step-by-step
Step 1
To ensure that the fabric absorbs the marker ink properly, you should wash, dry and iron the bag before you start. In our example, we used the edding 4600 textile pen and the 4500 textile marker in different shades of blue. We’ve got various templates on our website ready for you to use, including an anchor and a selection of motifs and letters.
Step 2
Prepare your template in the size you require. Place the carbon tracing paper over the fabric with the blue side facing down, and the template on top of that. It’s a good idea to secure these with adhesive tape to stop them moving around. Next, transfer the motif onto the bag by drawing over it with the ballpoint pen. Press firmly so that it’s clearly visible during the next step.
Step 3
Remove the template and the carbon paper. It’s a good idea to slip the cardboard inside the bag to prevent the ink bleeding through to the back.
Step 4
Now you can colour in your motif. We recommend using textile markers for the larger areas and textile pens for the finer outlines and lettering.
Step 5
To heat-set the design, iron it on the no-steam setting to make it wash-resistant up to 60°C.
