Step-by-step
Step 1
You can see everything you need at a glance in our photo. You’ll need edding porcelain brush pens in black (colour code 001) and red (002). For best results, wash the plates or bowls with water first (ideally in the dishwasher) and wipe over with methylated spirits.
Step 2
It’s a good idea to sketch out your wording on paper first before copying it onto the crockery using the porcelain brush pens. To ensure that the ink doesn’t come into contact with food, only decorate the outer rim or outer surface of the porcelain.
Step 3
The tip of the brush pen is highly versatile, allowing you to create very fine lines by applying just the tip, or broader brush strokes by holding the pen flatter. If you make a mistake, it’s no problem – simply wipe it off with a damp cloth or cotton bud. The quote on this bowl reads: “rice to meet you”.
Step 4
For larger motifs, we recommend you start with the outlines first before filling them in. You could add extra touches in red, as shown here on our painted chopsticks.
Step 5
You could also decorate a noodle bowl to match. The quote in our example reads: “You make miso happy”, but you’re sure to be able to come up with your own fitting ways to decorate your sushi plates. The soft tip of the brush pen makes painting fun and produces wonderful results.
Step 6
Once you’ve finished decorating, leave your design to dry for approx. 15 minutes. The painted design now has to be baked in the oven. Place the items(s) on a cold oven rack, slide into the preheated oven and bake at 160°C for 25 minutes. Leave in the oven to cool afterwards. After baking, your hand-designed plates and bowls will be dishwasher-safe. Et voilà – your sushi tableware is finished!
