Painting porcelain - coffee place setting

A bright idea for brunch or breakfast – start your day with splashes of Ultra Violet

You can never really go wrong with white porcelain, because it goes with just about anything! Sometimes, though, you need a little more colour, especially at the breakfast table. With edding porcelain brush pens, painting on porcelain is a piece of cake! We particularly love Ultra Violet, Colour of the Year 2018. A bold shade of purple, it communicates creativity and the joy of experimentation. We decorated a milk jug, a sugar bowl and even a coffee filter holder with simple designs, adding lines and dots arranged in patterns. We’ll show you our foolproof method in our step-by-step guide. These porcelain brush pens, available in coordinating colours, are ideal for painting oven-proof porcelain or glass because their special ink has a silky texture, producing an even finish. After you’ve created your design, leave the ink to dry for a short while before baking the items in a pre-heated oven. Your designs will then be dishwasher-safe.

Пошаговая инструкция

Шаг 1

Get all your materials ready. For best results, wash the items of crockery in water (a dishwasher is ideal for this), then wipe over with methylated spirits.

We recommend you leave the insides blank and only paint the outer surfaces. The tip of the porcelain brush pen is flexible, allowing you to create very fine lines (by applying the tip only) or broader brush strokes (by holding the pen flat). First, draw a grid pattern around the coffee filter.

If you make a mistake, you can easily fix it with a damp cloth or cotton bud. Decorate with dots at the points where the lines meet. When you’ve finished designing, leave the ink to dry for 15 minutes. Next, bake your items for 25 minutes in a preheated oven at 160°C. Place the porcelain on a cold oven shelf before sliding it into the oven. Leave in the oven to cool afterwards. After baking, your hand-painted crockery will be dishwasher-safe.

To create the purple design on the sugar bowl, draw a series of vertical lines all the way round and then join them up with slanted lines.
