Optical illusion placemats

Make your own trick table mats

Optical illusions are fascinating – and they’re not just something you might find in a museum of illusions, because they also feature in our everyday lives as pictures that trick the eyes. As you can see here, you can make your own placemats with an optical illusion – and it’s easier than it looks. We show you how it’s done with the help of edding textile markers and our template, plus our simple step-by-step instructions. Textile markers are ideal for all kinds of light-coloured fabrics, including cotton and linen. There are two stroke widths and a range of 20 colours to choose from, including neon shades for a particularly vibrant effect. Once you’ve finished designing your placemats, you should iron them as they will then be able to withstand wash cycles up to 60°C.
