Step-by-step
Step 1
Start by making a template for your gift box. Draw two squares joined together and add half circles top and bottom as illustrated. For the design, select gloss paint markers in a variety of colours. We used violet metallic (colour code 079), light blue metallic (070), green metallic (074) and copper (055).
Step 2
Place the template on the dark or coloured sheet of paper, then trace over the outlines in pencil and cut out the gift box shape. Using the craft knife, carefully score along the centre line and the inner arcs. This makes the card easier to bend when the box is folded.
Step 3
Fold to form a gift box and glue the two straight edges together.
Step 4
Now it’s time to get on with the decorating – but before you begin, you need to activate the gloss paint marker: shake the marker vigorously with the cap on; remove the cap, place the nib on absorbent paper and pump it up and down gently a few times until ink appears in the nib. Now you’re ready to get started (and when you’ve finished, always store the marker horizontally). Decorate the box with tiny stars and planets.
Step 5
Another idea is to write a space-related message or a sentiment relevant to the gift, such as “You’re simply out of this world!”. Place something nice inside the box and make someone’s day!
