Step-by-step
Step 1
Gather together all the materials that you need. Start by washing the bottles thoroughly. For this project, you’ll need edding permanent spray in black. For the space motifs use edding 780 gloss paint markers in silver (colour code 054), gold (053) and copper (055).
Step 2
Cover your working area carefully with the protective sheet. To find our essential tips for perfect spraying, visit the Spray basics section of our website. First, shake the spray can for 3 minutes, then remove the sprayhead and prise off the safety ring with the aid of a screwdriver.
Step 3
Spray the bottles all the way round with permanent spray. We recommend you hold the can at a distance of about 25 cm and use both horizontal and vertical strokes to prevent runs. Allow approx. 30 minutes for the paint to dry completely.
Step 4
The next step is to create your design on the piece of black paper that’s going to be glued onto the cardboard tube. Make sure it’s large enough to wrap around the tube once. To activate a paint marker before use, follow the instructions on the pen: shake, pump gently, then make a few test strokes on absorbent paper. Use the fine-nibbed marker to decorate the paper any way you like. We’ve got some great space motifs that are brilliant for these party rockets. They’re available for you to download and print.
Step 5
Now it’s time to cover the cardboard tube: glue a piece of shiny paper or tissue paper to one end so it sticks out by around 5 cm (see photo). Glue the black paper with the design next to this, leaving a narrow strip free at the top of the tube for the nose of the rocket.
Step 6
Your New Year’s Eve cracker is almost finished and can now be filled with confetti or mini treats. Cut a semi-circle shape out of the gold paper, glue the edges together to form a cone and stick this to the top of the cardboard tube.
Step 7
To finish, seal the party crackers with a piece of ribbon and place them over the top of the bottles. You can use the gloss paint markers to add extra decorative touches to the glass bottles, such as tiny stars.
