Step-by-step

Step 1
You can see all the materials you need in this photo. To achieve the zebra look, you’ll need an edding 3000 permanent marker and an edding 400 in black.

Step 2
First, use a pencil to draw the classic zebra stripes onto the wooden block. Feel free to make the lines uneven. It doesn’t matter if they converge.

Step 3
Next, go over the stripes with the fine-tipped edding 400.

Step 4
Using the edding 3000, with its slightly thicker bullet tip, you can colour in the stripes and enhance specific sections.

Step 5
Now it’s time to give the zebra its “lifelike” mane. To do this, use the pliers to remove handfuls of bristles from the brush and stick then into the splits in the wood using Contact Power Adhesive to gradually build up a magnificent mane. If your block of wood doesn’t have any splits in it, you can stick the bristles straight onto the actual block.

Step 6
To protect your shelf from any scratches, attach a self-adhesive felt pad to the underside of your bookend.
