Bags of colourful surprises for your nearest and dearest

This lovely, vibrant Advent calendar will go down a storm with your friends and family. And because it’s so simple to make, it’s also a great idea for anyone wanting to have a go at crafting an Advent calendar for the first time. You’ll need 24 paper bags (small food bags or sandwich bags are ideal) and a selection of pens from the edding Colour Happy Big Box. The box contains a huge array of colours and pen types, ranging from broad- and fine-nibbed colour pens to brush pens and fineliners, not to mention gel rollers in glossy metallic shades – a dream for drawing and colouring fanatics. A brush pen colour mixer is also included, allowing you to create beautiful colour gradients with ease by blending the colours. With this almost infinite world of colour at your fingertips, designing will be so much fun that you probably won’t be able to stop yourself making a second calendar for another loved one right away! Step-by-step

Step 1

The edding Colour Happy Big Box gives you a huge array of pens and colours at your fingertips. This photo shows the open box, including the colour mixer and the pastel pen for creating colour gradients.

Step 2

The paper bags can be decorated with all sorts of Christmassy motifs, be it snowmen, fir trees, angels, baubles, reindeer – anything that springs to mind. Sketch out the motifs in pencil first.

Step 3

Using the black edding 55 fineliner, draw over all the fine outlines of the motifs. Next, use the edding 1340 brush pen (or another fibre pen from the Colour Happy Box) to colour in the motifs however you wish. You could keep it bright and varied by designing each motif in a different colour. With such a fabulous selection of colours, you’ll be spoilt for choice. And, of course, if you fancy blending colours, you can simply use the colour mixer.

Step 4

Now mark each bag with a day of the month using an edding 1300 colour pen. Finally, fill the bags with yummy treats or tiny gifts and seal them up. And there you have it – your Advent calendar is finished!
