Step-by-step

Step 1
You can see everything you need at a glance in our photo. We used edding 751 gloss paint markers in the colours green metallic (colour code 074), gold (053), pink metallic (079), violet metallic (078) and the edding 780 in black. The black paper should be big enough to wrap around the matchbox and cover it completely.

Step 2
Start by drawing the checked pattern in pencil, making it exactly the same width as the matchbox. Before you use a gloss paint marker, it needs to be activated as described here. Colour in the individual squares brightly with the gloss paint markers.

Step 3
Leave five blank squares in the shape of a figure “1” as shown in the picture – this is the shape of the “missing puzzle piece”. Draw the “1” on a separate piece of paper and use the gold pen to colour it in. Write the words “You’re my missing piece” below it.

Step 4
The pattern will look nicer if you draw thin black lines around the individual squares to separate them. The ideal pen for this is the fine-nibbed edding 780 gloss paint marker.

Step 5
Finally, glue the decorated paper on the outside of the box and the gold “1” on the inside as shown.
