How to make a board game

Design your own tabletop game board

Making your own board game is not only loads of fun, it also gives you plenty of opportunity to be creative. So, whether you’re mad about Monopoly or a lover of Ludo, you’re free to design your game table however you want. One really practical option is to use a square coffee table, such as the “Lack” side table from IKEA. It’s the ideal size for board games. We decided to make a bespoke Monopoly board, but rather than thinking up street names we came up with some fun place names instead – with pictures to match, of course. For example, we drew a dodgem car for the “Funfair” and a bag of popcorn for the “Cinema”. All you need is a suitable tabletop or large game board, plus our edding gloss paint markers. Let your imagination run wild and you’ll soon come up with unique street names and illustrations of your own. The paint-like ink in the markers is opaque and quick-drying, and is available in a wide range of colours, including metallic and pastel shades.
