Money gifts with a personal touch

Whether at weddings, birthdays or on many other occasions, money is a much-appreciated present. If, however, you want your gift to have a personal feel, give this idea a try: we’ve used the money itself to create a folded design that’s very apt! We then framed it to create that extra special touch. edding gloss paint markers are great for adding personal designs to the actual glass. The paint-like ink offers excellent coverage, making it ideal for use on transparent materials. What’s more, the ink dries really fast.

Step-by-step

Step 1

You can see everything you need for this idea in the picture. We’ve chosen to use a white edding 751 gloss paint marker for our design, but these markers come in a wide range of other colours, so just pick your favourites! We’ve also selected a stripey wrapping paper in subtle shades to complement the summery feel of our design.

Step 2

Remove the glass from the frame and place to one side. Next, cut a piece of wrapping paper to fit the inside of your frame.

Step 3

If the money is a gift towards a cruise, for example, you can fold the banknote into the shape of a little boat. To do this, fold the note in half down the centre. Next, fold the right and left-hand sides inwards (as shown in the picture) and fold the bottom third upwards. Once finished, attach the little boat to the centre of your piece of prepared wrapping paper.

Step 4

Next, activate your gloss paint marker before use: shake the marker vigorously with the cap still on. Once you’ve done that, remove the cap and carefully press the nib up and down a few times on a piece of absorbent paper until ink fills the tip. Next, place the glass from your frame over your wrapping paper (and banknote) and add extra design elements (such as sails, waves and seagulls) on the actual glass.

Step 5

Depending on the occasion, you might want to add a message of congratulations or other sweet sentiments. The ink dries fast and is highly opaque, so it looks really effective on glass.
