DIY astronaut pop up card

A fun card idea for outer-space enthusiasts

DIY pop-up cards are very popular – and, with the help of our handy tips and tricks, they’re also easy to make. This one is decorated with a space theme, so it’s sure to be a hit with space fans of all ages. We have a variety of fun motifs available for download on our website, including the cute astronaut you can see here. Not only that: the new pastel colours in the edding gloss paint marker range are ideal for drawing the galactic motifs: the ink in the gloss paint markers is completely opaque, smudge-proof and waterproof, making them suitable for almost all surfaces and particularly good for all smooth and dark materials.

Step-by-step

Step 1

You can see everything you need at a glance in our photo. In our example, we used edding gloss paint markers in pastel rose (colour code 138), pastel blue (139), pastel green (137) and pastel yellow (135). The templates with the cute space motifs and the astronaut are easy to download from our website. Start by cutting out the card to the required size, or use a ready-made one.

Step 2

Before using a gloss paint marker, you need to activate it: Shake the marker vigorously with the cap on, then remove the cap, place the nib on absorbent paper and pump it up and down gently a few times until ink appears in the nib. Now you’re ready to get drawing. (And don’t forget to always store the marker horizontally after use.) You’re free to decorate your DIY pop-up card however you want – with stars, galaxies, rockets, little planets, and so on.

Step 3

Our templates provide lots of inspiration and ideas for you to copy. If the pen nib releases too little ink, shake the marker again and pump it gently. You’ll see that the gleaming pastel colours show up particularly well on black paper.

Step 4

Photocopy the astronaut and candy cane templates on the white paper to the size required. Colour them in however you like and cut them out. Next, cut a strip of black paper measuring 2 x 8 cm and glue the astronaut to the bottom edge of the strip. Glue the candy cane to the astronaut’s hand. Finally, fold the paper strip over at the ends and glue these tabs to the bottom edge of the card (as shown in our photo), so when the card stands open the astronaut has a firm footing.
