Use edding textile markers for a personalised look

Protective face coverings have become a must-have fashion accessory these days. Whenever you leave the house, you now need to remember not only your keys, wallet and phone – but possibly also your mask. It might be necessary to wear a face mask, but who wants to go shopping wearing a standard, pale blue disposable mask? Especially when a hand-designed one is so much more personal and stylish. So why not make the best of the situation and reach for edding’s range of textile markers and textile pens. You can simply let your imagination run wild or use one of our templates. Step-by-step

Step 1

First of all, wash the mask to remove any finishing agents in the fabric before leaving to dry. If you’re sewing your own mask, we’ve got some simple instructions for you (you can find it in the download folder). You can also look online for alternative sewing guides. To make the mask with the mouth design, we used edding 4500 textile markers in red and pink shades, plus black.

Step 2

Print out your chosen template and put it to one side, ready to copy. To prevent the ink from bleeding through to the back or onto the table, we recommend you place a piece of cardboard underneath the fabric. Starting with the black pen, draw all the outlines of the motif, then leave the ink to dry for a short while. Next, using red and pink shades, colour in everything to your heart’s content.

Step 3

The easiest way to make the colour gradients is to use multiple shades of red and pink in quick succession without letting the ink dry between each one.

Step 4

To finish, iron the mask without steam to heat-fix the design, then wash it at 60°C. This stops the risk of breathing in any colour substances contained in the ink. Please note: washing the mask at 90°C in accordance with official hygiene guidelines for disinfection purposes may cause the colours to fade.
