Step-by-step
Step 1
You can see everything need for this project in the picture below. In our example, we’ve chosen to use edding permanent spray in various gold shades such as rose gold, champagne gold and rich gold, as well as copper, silver and clear lacquer. You’ll also need to download and print the template for the paper stars (or simply copy out the design yourself).
Step 2
Cut out your stars and then cover your workspace well with a protective sheet or paper. Before you start painting, activate your spray paints by shaking the cans vigorously for around 3 minutes until you can clearly hear the mixing balls rattling around inside. Next, remove the safety ring using a screwdriver. You might also want to check out the Permanent spray basics page on our website for some handy tips on creating the perfect spray paint finish. Spray the stars in metallic shades such as gold, copper and rose gold, and leave them to dry thoroughly.
Step 3
Spray your driftwood with a coat of edding permanent spray clear lacquer to make sure it stays looking great for longer. Don’t worry if the finish is uneven in places; it all adds to the rustic charm.
Step 4
Once the stars are completely dry, spray more stars in different metallic shades, making sure you spray both sides once each side is dry. For best results, we recommend re-activating the paint cans by shaking them again each time before you use them.
Step 5
Once all the stars are completely dry, make an incision as far as the centre of each star.
Step 6
Now slot pairs of stars together to create three-dimensional stars.
Step 7
Finally, attach different length ribbons to the stars using glue and then tie the ribbons onto your piece of driftwood. Hang the driftwood from a door or window using a wide piece of ribbon, wind the fairy lights around the branch - and that’s it: your new Christmas decoration is complete!
