Step-by-step

Step 1
In our example, we’ve chosen to use X multi markers in blue, turquoise and silver. Before starting your design, you first need to activate your X multi markers. To do this, shake each of the markers with the cap still on until you can hear the small ball rattling inside the marker pen. Next, carefully press the nib up and down a few times on a piece of scrap paper until the ink fills the tip. You can also use the piece of paper to try out a few practice marks.

Step 2
Start by drawing a flame-shaped pattern onto your ball using your turquoise marker. You can do this free hand or, if you prefer to play it safe, you can draw the outline in pencil first. Once you’re happy with your design, leave the turquoise ink to dry thoroughly.

Step 3
Next, use your silver marker to draw around the outside of your turquoise pattern to create a decorative metallic effect.

Step 4
Again, wait until the silver ink is completely dry before moving on to the next colour. If the colours are still wet, they can easily run together. Finally, draw round your flame pattern using your blue marker. The X multi marker’s narrow tip is perfect for this.
