These glass jars are not only jam-packed with colour and style - each one also contains a surprise that's just waiting to be discovered! The contents have been concealed with spray paint, adding to the element of surprise. Advent calendars always bring joy, and this simple take on the traditional calendar is no exception. In this Idea, edding permanent spray is used to decorate empty jam jars or other screw-top glass containers in co-ordinating colours. We opted for copper, champagne gold, telemagenta and pastel shades, but you can select your own favourite colours. Step-by-step

Step 1

To spray the jars, you'll need edding 5200 permanent sprays in telemagenta (colour code 905), copper, champagne gold and pastel rose. The numbers are written on using the edding 753 calligraphy gloss paint marker in black. First of all, completely cover your work surface and surrounding area with masking film.

Step 2

Clean the jars thoroughly and remove any labels (hot water and washing-up liquid are best for this). Turn the jars upside down and spray all over in your chosen colours. In our Spray basics section, we’ve got handy tips on how to achieve the perfect spraying technique. To produce a really smooth paint finish, we recommend spraying with criss-cross strokes. Then leave the paint to dry thoroughly.

Step 3

Once the paint is completely dry (this could take several hours), you can add the numbers. Draw freehand if you like, or download the numbers template from our website and transfer the numbers onto the jars with the aid of carbon paper.

Step 4

The numbers should be clearly visible on the surface, so now you can trace over them before colouring them in using gloss paint markers. Once everything is ready, fill the jars with treats and arrange them to make an attractive display.
