An exotic touch for your home

In this idea, we’ll be showing you how to make your own stylish doorstop. Practical, yet exotic in appearance, its simplicity will amaze you. Use edding permanent spray to transform your doorstop into a home accessory that’ll really get noticed. The permanent spray acrylic paint is available in 35 different colours, including trendy effect sprays. In our example, we’ve use black and concrete effect spray.

Step-by-step

Step 1

You can see everything you need in this photo. You’ll need edding 5200 permanent spray in a colour of your choice. In our example, we went for black matt (901) and concrete effect matt (941). To prime your metal tin, we recommend universal primer permanent spray.

Step 2

Before you start spraying, cover your work surface well with film or paper. Visit our Permanent Spray basics page and check out handy tips on how to achieve the perfect finish. Start by spraying all sides of the metal tin with universal primer and allow to dry thoroughly.

Step 3

Paint the giraffe in black or another colour of your choice. For best results, we recommend spraying from a distance of around 25 cm. Make sure you don’t spend too long spraying the same section. Leave everything to dry thoroughly.

Step 4

Once the primer is dry, spray the tin all over, using the concrete effect spray paint.

Step 5

Leave your sprayed items to dry thoroughly. Next, fill the tin with gravel. If you prefer, you can pour in plaster of Paris, making sure you leave it to dry really thoroughly. This will give your door stop the necessary weight.

Step 6

Close the tin by putting on the lid. Cut out a circle of felt to match the circumference of the tin. Stick this on the lid. The addition of this felt base will help protect your floor.

Step 7

Turn the tin back the other way up. Finally, coat the giraffe’s feet in Contact Power Adhesive glue and stick the giraffe onto the tin. And that’s it! Your stylish doorstop is ready!
