Learn to draw expressive mangas

Do you fancy being able to draw manga or anime characters? It’s really not that difficult, and we’ve got step-by-step instructions for you to follow. The large eyes, which characterise all manga drawings, are particularly important and reflect each figure’s emotions. With edding acrylic markers and colour pens you’ll have exactly the right “tools” to hand in order to create awesome pictures. We’ve also got the right paper for the job – the edding acrylic and oil pad. It’s perfectly suited to the unique characteristics of the acrylic markers and is highly absorbent.

Pas-à-pas

Etape 1

For this motif you’ll need edding acrylic markers in different widths and in the colours of your choice. Take a sheet of paper from the edding acrylic and oil pad, an edding 1200 colour pen in cherry blossom or an edding 1340 brush pen in light orange (as shown in the picture) and sketch your motif. In the download folder on the right-hand side you will find various templates with manga motifs.

Etape 2

Before you start to draw, first activate your acrylic marker as follows: shake the marker with the cap still on until you can hear the mixing balls inside the pen. Then carefully pump the marker up and down until ink appears in the tip. For the edding 5000 broad acrylic marker with a chisel nib, it’s very important to hold the marker at a slight angle so that the nib doesn’t get damaged. Test the pen out on a piece of paper. Once the marker is activated, you can then colour in the large areas. The broad acrylic marker broad and the medium acrylic marker are ideal for this. In this example, we’ve used “berry” as our colour for the hair.

Warm beige works well as a skin colour, for example.

And of course, don’t forget those extra details. The edding 5300 fine acrylic marker is great for adding subtle features to the face, such as outlining around the eyes or for touches of additional colour. The narrow edge of the edding 5000 acrylic marker’s chisel nib can be used for this purpose.

Etape 5

Add the final touches to your picture by drawing the outline. It’s best to use the edding 5300 fine acrylic marker or the edding 1340 brush pen in black for this task. Your work of art is now complete!
