Step-by-step

Step 1
In our example, we’ve chosen to use X multi markers in red, dark grey and white. Before starting your design, you first need to activate your X multi markers. To do this, shake each of the markers with the cap still on until you can hear the small ball rattling inside. Next, carefully press the nib up and down a few times on a piece of scrap paper until the ink fills the tip. You can also use the piece of paper to try out a few practice marks.

Step 2
We’ve used the seams on our trainers to frame our design but, depending on the style of your trainer, you might want to get creative across the whole shoe or just a small area. When designing smaller areas, we recommend using the narrow edge of your X multi markers (as demonstrated by our red marker in this picture).

Step 3
It’s also important to wait for each colour to dry fully; otherwise your colours will run together. For our second colour, we’ve gone for a dark grey on the toe and back edge of the trainer.

Step 4
Once the grey is completely dry, you can add any extra highlights using the white marker pen. The narrow edge of the nib is great for this.
