Step-by-step

Step 1
To create this deer design, you’ll need the edding acrylic start easy set in Nordic colours. This set contains six edding 5100 acrylic markers medium in mellow mint, moss green, elegant midnight, berry, classy mauve, pastel yellow and two edding 5300 acrylic markers fine in black and traffic white. The set also contains a postcard pad in quality paper. You can see everything at a glance in our photo.

Step 2
Print out the template and photocopy it to the desired size if necessary. Place the motif behind the canvas. Now place them both together in front of a light source and trace the template.

Step 3
Before you use an acrylic marker, activate it as follows: Shake the marker with the cap on. Carefully pump the marker up and down until ink fills the chisel nib. Start by filling in the larger areas of colour with the acrylic marker medium in pastel yellow, classy mauve, elegant midnight and moss green.

Step 4
Feel free to combine two colours to achieve a nice colour gradient. You’ll need to be quick to make sure the acrylic ink doesn’t dry before you mix in the second colour. Don’t forget to clean the marker by drawing lines until the mixed-in colour disappears completely.

Step 5
Using the acrylic marker medium in berry, fill in the smaller areas of colour, add prominent contours, the nose and smaller leaves.

Step 6
Now draw an outline for the background around the body of your deer in mellow mint. Fill some of it in and then use a wet brush to water down the still wet ink. Blend the paint with water to achieve a transparent, watercolour effect.

Step 7
Now it’s time to add decorative features to the antlers and head using the acrylic markers medium in berry and classy mauve.

Step 8
For the finishing touches, add the contours of decorative elements (such as the outline of leaves, small dots and highlights) using the acrylic markers fine in black and white.
