A pastel look to keep you smiling

Desk organisers and pen holders in uplifting pastel shades add colour to your working day. And if you make your own organisers from empty jam jars or other such glass containers, you’ll be doing something positive for the environment at the same time! We show you how to complete this upcycling idea with the help of edding’s gloss paint markers. The paint-like, opaque ink works particularly well on glass. What’s more, the wide range of colours helps you create awesome effects.

Step-by-step

Step 1

You can use old jam jars or other glass receptacles in whatever size you like. Labels can be removed simply and cleanly using the edding 8180 label removal marker. To paint the jars, we’ve used the edding 751 gloss paint marker in pastel colours (sold individually or available in sets of 3 or 5).

Step 2

Coat the unwanted label thoroughly using the label remover and leave the oil to take effect for a few minutes. You can then remove the label and any adhesive residue with ease. Before you start to decorate your jar, give it another thorough wash.

Step 3

Before decorating, activate the gloss paint markers as follows: shake the marker vigorously with the cap still on, remove the cap and pump the marker up and down a few times on a piece of absorbent paper until ink appears in the tip. Now you can paint the rainbow - stripe by stripe - in pastel colours. To ensure that the colours don’t run into each other, we recommend leaving each stripe to dry briefly before you continue with the next colour.

Step 4

Bright stars in pastel yellow, pink, blue and pastel green also look great on the jars. After using the markers, always make sure the caps are on properly and store horizontally. Let your imagination run free and paint whatever you like!
