Step-by-step
Step 1
First, layer all the dry ingredients from your favourite cake recipe in the jar one at a time. Each layer should be nice and even. For the decorative wording, stick the letters onto the jar – we chose the word CAKE.
Step 2
Using a gloss paint marker (shown here in white), make a rectangular frame around the wording, colouring over the entire area including the letters. Leave to dry for a short while. Meanwhile, you could also decorate the cap of the bottle with a gloss paint marker.
Before you start, here’s how to activate your edding gloss paint marker: Shake the marker firmly with the cap still on. Place the nib on some scrap paper and carefully pump it up and down a few times until ink fills the nib. Start by writing a few test strokes on the scrap paper. And don’t forget to always replace the cap securely after use.
Step 3
Finally, remove the letters carefully with the tweezers, taking care not to damage the white surround. Now all you need to do is write the instructions for the cake on a gift tag and your homemade cake mix in a jar gift is ready to go!
