Organise your child’s bedroom: big paper bags colourfully decorated

January is the perfect time of year for restoring order to your home. Sorting and putting things away is a great way to kick off the New Year on a positive note. When it comes to tidying up with children, however, it’s not as easy as it sounds! Young children in particular find it a lot more fun spreading their toys all over the house than putting them away afterwards. So we’ve got a practical solution for you: large, tear-resistant paper bags that you can draw on and decorate with our permanent markers. To help keep everything in order, the bags can be categorised by their contents and decorated with your child’s favourite designs. For soft toys, you could add a teddy bear face, for example, or an alphabet motif for Lego bricks. Get together with your child and think up some fun ideas. Since we’re using permanent markers here, don’t leave it up to kids to draw the designs, because the name says it all – these markers really are permanent! If little ones wish to join in, we recommend they use our edding Funtastics fibre pens for children. We hope you have lots of fun designing and tidying up together!

Step-by-step

Step 1

You can see all the materials you need at a glance in our photo. For our design, we opted for the classic edding 3000 marker with a medium wide nib. Before you start, pick out your favourite colours. Don’t forget our brand new addition: we now offer sets of 5 markers in coordinated colours. If drawing freehand isn’t your thing, you can print out the alphabet sheet that can be found on our website and use it as a template for copying.

Step 2

Keep the letters nice and straight. It helps if you draw a few faint pencil lines (well spaced apart) on the bag to guide you.

Step 3

If you wish to make your alphabet letters look a bit more interesting, why not draw them on the line but in different sizes? If you prefer, you could make your own template on parchment or greaseproof paper or buy a suitable letter stencil. Start by drawing the outlines of the letters using the permanent marker.
