Step-by-step

Step 1
We recommend that you start by washing the finish from the fabric and leaving it to dry. Make sure you have all your materials to hand before you start. Choose large biscuit cutters if possible, as this makes the padding and decorating much easier.

Step 2
Place the cutter (our example shows a star shape) on the material and draw around it with a pencil. Repeat, then cut out both shapes.

Step 3
To make the hanging loop, cut a suitable length of string and position the ends in the centre of the star. Spread textile glue along the edges, leaving a small opening so you can insert the wadding.

Step 4
Next, place the second star shape on top so they overlap exactly. Glue firmly together. Make sure the string is also glued in place and that you still have a small opening for the filling.

Step 5
You can now start adding your colourful decoration. Draw a line around the contours of the star with the edding 4600 textile pen in green, leaving sufficient space around the edge. Draw a second star inside this. Colour in the border using the broader green textile marker.

Step 6
The textile pen, with its fine tip, is perfect for writing names on gift tags.

Step 7
You can now stuff your decoration with wadding to give it an interesting 3D effect. Finally, close up the gap with textile glue. To keep the glued spot firmly closed, secure it with a couple of staples.

Step 8
Use the pinking shears to give your gift tag a pretty edging.
