Step-by-step

Step 1
You can see everything you need for this project in the picture below. In our example, we’ve chosen to use edding permanent spray in cream white, as well as the edding 8890 mechanical carpenter pencil.

Step 2
The length of the wooden slats will depend on the size of your cabinet. For our design, we’ve used 6 long slats and 2 short ones and placed them at an angle across both cabinet doors. Start by measuring out your slats and marking your cut lines using your mechanical carpenter pencil.

Step 3
Next, use a saw to cut your slats at the points you’ve marked. Remember that if you’re positioning your slats at an angle, you’ll also need to angle the ends correctly so that they line up with the edges of the cabinet door.

Step 4
Cover your workspace with a protective sheet or paper. Before you start painting, activate your spray paint by shaking the can vigorously for around 3 minutes until you can clearly hear the mixing balls rattling around inside. Next, remove the safety ring using a screwdriver. You might also want to check out the Permanent spray basics page on our website for some handy tips on creating the perfect spray paint finish. Now spread your wooden slats out over your workspace and spray paint them all in cream white.

Step 5
Wait until the slats are completely dry. Now apply some wood glue to the back of them...

Step 6
… and attach the slats to your cabinet in your chosen design.
