Folded paper candle holder

We probably all remember the fun we had as kids, making paper aeroplanes by folding up pieces of paper and making them fly. But the art of paper folding (origami) also offers many other fantastic possibilities, such as this easy-to-make paper candle holder. Once they’re folded into shape, the candle holders can be decorated with edding permanent spray in beautiful colours, transforming them into unique, eye-catchers. In total, there are 37 colours to choose from, including the latest popular shades. In our example, we used champagne gold, neo mint and pastel rose as they go together beautifully. This means that even beginners can achieve fantastic results before long!

Step-by-step

Step 1

To make our candle holders, we used the following colours: champagne gold (colour code 940) neo mint (939) and pastel rose (914).

Step 2

We’ve got a folding template available on our website for you to use. For each candle holder, you’ll need two strips of thick paper.

Step 3

Fold the paper into a concertina shape following the lines on the template. Working on one side of the paper only, press down at the top of each pleat to form a triangle and fold inwards. Repeat this step at the bottom of each pleat. To finish, glue the edges of the band together to make a cuff. For a nice-looking join, interlock the two outer folded edges and glue them together.

Step 4

Cover your work surface carefully with masking film. Once you’ve chosen your paint colour, shake the spray can for 3 minutes, then remove the sprayhead and prise off the safety ring with the aid of the screwdriver.

Step 5

We recommend you spray continuously at a distance of approx. 25 cm, using horizontal and vertical strokes, so that the paint covers more evenly. In our Spray basics section we’ve got handy tips on how to achieve the perfect spraying technique. Afterwards, let the paint dry for about 30 minutes.

Step 6

Once the paint is completely dry, place a glass holder - complete with tealight - inside your candle holder. And there you have it! Your DIY candleholder is now finished!
