Step-by-step

Step 1
For this Idea, you’ll need four different edding 1340 brush pens – two in bold colours and two in pastel shades. In our example, we’ve opted for silver grey (026), light orange (016), tangerine (084) and violet (008).

Step 2
Draw a large heart in the centre of your paper using your silver grey brush pen. Next, draw a series of uneven vertical and horizontal lines across the paper. You don’t want the distances between the lines to be exactly the same, as this will make the design less interesting.

Step 3
Gradually colour in every other square around the outside of the heart using your tangerine brush pen to create a chessboard effect.

Step 4
Now colour in the gaps using your violet pen (remember not to colour in the heart just yet). If you want to achieve a darker tone, simply go over a square with your pen for longer.

Step 5
Colour in the heart in the same way using your silver grey and light orange pens. And that’s it – your mini artwork is complete!
