Build your own mini bookshelf

This mini bookshelf not only looks great, it’s also really handy and easy to make! Built from four pieces of square-edge timber and attached to the wall at an angle, it creates a snug storage space where you can keep all your books close at hand. A handy tool for this project – and an essential addition to any toolbox – is the edding deep hole construction pencil: it makes light work of measuring cut lines and hanging shelves. The pencil features an extra-long metal tip, so you’ll have no trouble marking up your drill holes - even in those hard-to-reach places.

Step-by-step

The edding 8880 deep hole construction pencil comes in a sturdy protective holster with an integrated sharpener. To extend the nib, simply press the button on the end of the pencil.

Step 3

Once you’ve decided what size shelf you want, you first need to cut your timber into two longer lengths and two shorter ones. In our example, our longer pieces each measure 20 cm and our shorter ones each measure 15 cm. Start by marking out your cut lines using the deep hole construction pencil.

Step 4

Now neatly cut your timber using a saw and add drill holes in the right place so that it’s ready to attach to the wall later on.

Step 5

Mark out your drill holes on the wall using the construction pencil. Thanks to the pencil’s 42 mm nib, it’s easy to mark the wall through the wood. Next, drill the holes in the wall and insert the rawlplugs.
