A new makeover for an old shelf

This idea shows you how to turn an ordinary wall shelf into a veritable showpiece. Any shelf – whether it’s an old one you’ve retrieved from the loft, or a bargain snapped up at a car boot sale – can be transformed into real eyecatcher with the help of edding permanent spray. We’ve chosen to combine different shades of pink with trendy champagne gold to create a feel-good colour scheme that adds a touch of elegance. Step-by-step

Step 1

Make sure you’ve got all your materials ready before you start. In our example, we’ve chosen the trend colours champagne gold (colour code 940), classy mauve (935) and pastel rose (914). First of all, dismantle the shelf.

Step 2

Carefully cover your work surface with masking film. Starting with classy mauve, shake the spray can for 3 minutes, then remove the sprayhead and prise off the safety ring with the aid of the screwdriver. We recommend you spray continuously at a distance of around 25 cm, using horizontal and vertical strokes, so that the paint covers more evenly. Step 3

Let the paint dry for about 30 minutes. In the next step you’re going to spray the upper surface of the shelf in pastel rose, but you first need to prepare the shelf: using the pre-taped masking film, cover up the edges and the underside. Make sure that the edge of the film is securely sealed to stop the paint going where it shouldn’t.

Step 4

Now take the spray can of pastel rose and shake it really well. Once you’ve removed the safety ring, you can start spraying with your second colour. The paint needs to dry for about 30 minutes before the masking film can be removed.
