Smarten a plain old outdoor table and make it the highlight of your patio

Well I never – who’s this going pitter-patter across the tabletop? The secret here is a paw print decoration that you can easily apply yourself – a cute idea that will appeal to more than just animal lovers! To jazz up an old piece of furniture such as a patio table, all you need is a stencil and some edding permanent spray for a complete makeover. Colours inspired by nature are currently very trendy, and edding has the perfect shade in its permanent spray range – vibrant amber, a rich, warm yellow tone. You can team this with mellow mint, a delicate green, for an easy-to-apply, fresh new look and to create a lovely highlight for your balcony or terrace.

Step-by-step

Step 1

It’s best to work out outdoors when using permanent spray. Gather all the materials you need and cover your work surface completely before you spray. First, print out a copy of the stencil and transfer the paw print design onto the stencil sheet using a permanent marker. Next, cut them out carefully so you end up with a negative sheet.

Step 2

To leave a narrow section unpainted, mask it carefully with film. Prepare the wooden tabletop by spraying it with a coat of universal primer and leave it until thoroughly dry. For the essentials on working with edding Permanent Spray, go to our 'Spray basics' page.

Step 3

Next, spray the entire surface in mellow mint. We recommend you spray at a distance of around 25 cm using horizontal and vertical strokes to ensure a more even coverage. Let this dry for around 30 minutes.

Step 4

Once this is completely dry you can then spray on the paw print pattern. Cover the section you want to leave unpainted carefully with masking film. Lay the paw print stencil on the surface and spray with vibrant amber. Leave to dry thoroughly.
