Spooky glass jar lanterns

Simple yet effective Halloween decorations

You can make your own Halloween lanterns with ease by painting glass jars. We decorated ours in white to contrast with the black spiders and bats, and the result is a subdued lighting effect that’s perfect for Halloween. Empty jam jars make good DIY lanterns, and we painted ours using white edding permanent spray. You can use any colour you like, of course, because there are more than 35 to choose from in total, all of which are highly opaque, quick-drying and long-lasting. If you wind lengths of parcel string or twine around the jar, the candlelight will shine through the irregular strips to create a spooky atmosphere.
