Gift-wrap idea using wood slices

If you want to wrap your presents to make them look really striking, we’ve got a highly decorative idea for you! We’ve used smooth wood slices as a decorative feature and have integrated them into the actual paper with the help of acrylic markers. It might sound a bit complicated at first glance, but don’t worry: we’ll show you every step in detail. Just let your imagination run wild! Choose colours and designs to match the occasion – delicate snowflakes at Christmas time or floral patterns for a birthday. There are up to 26 vibrant colours to choose from. You can buy wood slices in any well-stocked art-and-craft store in a wide range of sizes and wood types.

Step-by-step

Step 1

Before you begin, wipe the wooden slices with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust and then leave to dry.

Step 2

The acrylic markers are available in numerous colours, so pick out your favourites. In our example, we’ve used the broad acrylic marker in opulent turquoise, the medium acrylic marker in silver and the fine acrylic marker in white- as well as the 3D double liner in classy mauve and white. You can see all the materials at a glance in this photo.

Step 3

First, activate the markers: shake each marker with the cap still on until the mixing balls inside can clearly be heard. Carefully prime the pen by pressing the nib up and down until ink appears in the tip. Test the pen on a piece of scrap paper. The 3D double liner is ready to use right away. Place the wood slice on the present and glue securely to the wrapping. Using the broad acrylic marker, now draw little swirls. As you do so, let your strokes cross from the wood onto the paper. Leave to dry.

Step 4

Next, using the silver marker, add finer details to the wood slice and the paper.

Step 5

It’s now time to use the acrylic 3D double liner: with the thin end of the tube, paint the bow in a heart shape right across the parcel. When you’re doing this, make sure that the other end of the tube is properly closed. In the same way, you can transform any other packaging idea using wood slices.
